Qualified to the CEV CUP quarter finals!

The men’s volleyball team achieved another success as qualified to the quarter finals of the CEV Cup winning 3-1 against Istanbul BBSK. The ‘’Reds’’ needed two sets in the rematch so as to seal the qualification and although were back with 0-1, overturned the score and qualified to the next round. So, the “legendary” European trip continues as the team will face the Bulgarian Burgas in order to qualify to the semi-finals. The first game will take place among between 28 and 30 January in Bulgaria and the rematch in Piraeus in two weeks later. Aleksiev was the top scorer with 24 points, Schmitt added 12 ones and Bohme had 11.

The Head Coach Fernando Munoz Benitez stated at Olympiacosfp.gr: "It was a tough game as the Turkish team played very well in away ones and proved it today. We prepared for such a strong game and came to qualify. I am not happy with our performance in the first set but we improved and got the victory. Now, we will face a team against Bulgaria which has good and experienced players. There will be strong games and hope that we reach the semifinals with the support of our fans”. 

Aleksiev mentioned: “We needed two sets to qualify which was our main goal and did it. We played well after the second set, concentrated on our goal and now, we focus on the next opponent. I will be even better in the next games. I am happy to be here''. 

Bohme said: "We expected the opponent to be very tough in this game, as we only needed two sets. After the first set, our performance went up, we found our rhythm and reached the two sets that gave us the qualification and then, the victory. We continue to be concentrated in order to achieve our goals. "
