10th final in four years!
Olympiacos achieved another important success in the European competitions. Following the winning of the CEV women’s Challenge Cup and the second position in the men’s one, the women’s water polo team qualified to the final of LEN Trophy as it beat Padova 10-4 in the Final Four semifinal held in Mataro. The ‘’Reds’’ will face Dunaujvaros in the final on Saturday. This will be the 6th final for the team in the last four years. The team had the support of the President Mr. Michalis Kountouris and a number of fans who were present on the venue.
Key action:
In the first half Olympiacos and Padova were on equal terms, the Greeks struggled in man-ups and could equalise for 2-2 in the dying seconds before the big break. Then like a whirlwind the Greeks blew their rivals away in the third. The ‘’Reds’’ were the absolute dominant and had the game under control. It took the lead with a goal Emmolo and then ran a 7-0 streak. Padova reduced to 3-8 but Olympiacos had already made an important step for the victory.
In the last quarter, Olympiacos kept the rhytm and Tsoukala scored for 9-3. Tielman reduced to 9-4 but Avramidou did the final 4-10 six minutes before the end of the game.
