Held to a draw by Hannover

The Men’s water polo team held to a draw against Hannover in the second game of the LEN Champions League group stage. The ‘’Reds’’ could have won but Hannover scored in the last attempt and tied the match. 

Key action: 

Olympiacos started the game well and led with 3-1. Then, the hosts did a 3-0 run to go ahead in the middle of the second period. Obradovic tied to 4-4 but Hannover scored again having the advantage at the end of the first half. 

The ‘’Reds’’ were three goals down in the third period (7-4). Then, Olympiacos reacted and scored three consecutive goals to tie the game. Real did 8-7 for Hannover but Genidounias replied immediately. Gounas gave the lead to the European Champion but  Alex Giorgetti equalised 37 seconds before the end. Olympiacos had one more man-up but missed it, so the ‘’Reds’’ could collect only one point in their first two away matches.

The Head Coach, Thodoris Vlachos stated at olympiacossfp.gr: “We were the absolute favourite before the start of the game. Our performance wasn’t good in the second and the third period as we failed in many attempts and made lots of mistakes defensively. Surely, we proved our potential in the last period and we could win. We don’t have to be disappointed. It’s definitely up to us to change this situation and show our quality’’.
